Selecting the right water level sensor is critical for coffee machine performance. Float switches are inexpensive but mechanically complex and prone to failure. Optical sensors react quickly but require a clear window and are sensitive to staining or algae. Capacitive non-contact sensors, like the XKC-Y29A, detect level changes through the tank wall, avoiding all physical contact with water.
Capacitive sensors offer longer service life, higher hygiene standards, and easier installation. They work regardless of water clarity, making them suitable for both filtered and unfiltered water tanks. With advanced filtering and calibration, they resist false triggers from bubbles, waves, or condensation. For OEMs prioritizing low maintenance and high reliability, capacitive technology is increasingly the default choice.
